Oktoberfest not carbonating, with a twist

Tue Dec 13, 2005 6:43 pm

One of my friends bought an Oktoberfest extract kit from a local brew shop back in the beginning of October. He brought to my house for us to make the beer. This was about the 2nd or 3rd beer I had brewed and new nothing about lagering or lagers for that matter. I didn't take great notes in the begining so I don't have much to tell you. It was fermented around 65 degrees for about 2 weeks and then bottled. The readings were dead on. We realized that this was a lager and the only thing we new was lagers equaled cold so we stuffed them in the fridge and there they sit.

Well, I opened one today to see what was going on and there wasn't much of a pssssst when I opened the bottle. It seemed a little carbonated but not much. It's realativly clear and it tastes like an Oktoberfest, I think.

So, my question is what to do? Will it ever carbonate in the bottles in the fridge? Is this one of those lesson learned things that we dump down the drain?

If I find the ingredients list (not sure if it matters at this point) I'll post it.

Thanks,

Rob

Pull the bottles out of the fridge and let them sit at room temperature for about 2 weeks. They should carbonate just fine.

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.

Thanks Oz, that's a good idea. It's been this long I can wait a little longer... I think.
