Playoff Pre"Dick"shunts, Round 2

Wed Apr 29, 2009 5:38 am

Detroit/Anaheim - Detroit in 6. Anaheim will win a few becasue they're playing great right now, but Detroit will get their legs going and score a lot.

Vancouver/Chicago - tough, I want to see Chicago win, but I think Luongo is too good. Canucks in 6.

Boston/Carolina - (why did NJ have to lose?) Boston in 5. Staal will win one game for them, but the Bruins will beat them down.

Washington/Pittsburgh - Tough one - two offensively minded teams. Ultimately, the goalies will decide it, and Fluery is a known quantity, Varmalov wasn't really tested much by the Rangers. Pittsburgh in 5.

This has been a terrible playoff for me in terms of making the right call, but here goes.

Boston/Carolina- Boston is a good team. They’re a really good team. Incredible defense, solid offense. No goaltending, but you can’t have everything. My only concern for Boston is that they had too easy a rise into the second round. Lots of 1st seed teams have swept and then wound up blowing up in the next round. I would hate to see it, as Carolina should NOT have a hockey team in the first place, but it’s happened before.

Washington/ Pittsburgh- This is going to be the best match up in the whole second round. The two teams are developing a bit of a history together, and it’s going to be great to see the Ovechkin vs. Cindy Crosby debate settled for good. I expect this one to go 7, and be fun to watch.

The West

Detroit/Anaheim – Whew. Nice to have an easy one to call. Sorry, but the two teams aren’t anywhere close to evenly matched. The Wings continue going through the formalities until they fight for the cup.

Vancouver/ Chicago- One the face of it, answering the question “Who are the Wings going to beat next round” should be a no-brainer. That being said, Vancouver has an incredible ability to blow playoff games so, who the hell knows? I’m giving it to Vancouver.

Washington/Pittsburgh is the series the networks were praying for

I don't think the Bs take down Carolina in 5, Carolina just played NJ tough and besides they're the Whale - ok maybe they don't have any Whalers (Anaheim has 2 Pronger and Giguiere).

Whalers-Bruins goes at least 6

+ 5 Agility and + 10 to spell damage. But I think the series to watch is Detroit v Ducx.

No, the Pitt Wash series is ogoing to be fun, for the offense, and Sid and OV are both going to be on fire.

But, OV tries to wins games by himself, and Sidney plays for the team. I still like OV better.

I still think it will come down to the goalies, and I don't think it will get to 7.

Hell I wanted to pick all 4 to end in 6, but that felt weird...

Yeah the Det-Ducks series is also going to be a good one but I get up at 4am for work at the course, so the there is no way I'm staying up past 9ish. That's 6pm for you guys on the West side and I'm not sure the NHL would move their games up for me. Well, my emails have gone unanswered.
