Congrats! Keep it up! I smoked a pipe a couple hours a day for 14 years. I took up distance running. The effect of smoking on my ability to run kept me motivated to stay smoke free until I no longer had the craving. Now I just smoke a cigar every month or so along with a good beer. Being that smoke free, a single cigar and a beer gives me the same feeling as a couple pipe fulls of cousin for a half hour or so. If I smoke more often than that, I don't get the high so that keeps me from smoking too many.

If you need more motivation than that, get your wife/girlfriend a cattle prod so they can remind you about not smoking when you start to light one up.

Power through the cravings. I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 14 years and quit cold turkey 5 years ago. There is nothing that is going to make it easier, it's all about will power. Pick up some chewing gum or sun flower seeds to fill in when the cravings get bad. Best of luck dude!

What's worse? 1-2 packs/day or 4-8 pints of beer per day? Not sure, but I hope it's the cigs. :jnj

I did the same exact thing as BadRock. Just quit cold turkey and power through it - 48 hours, then it's all mental.

Thanks, guys. I hear ya.
It is not my first time quitting. I quit for a bit over a year before. All it took for me to start smoking again was a trip from Denver to Kingston, NH. And a girlfriend that couldnt drive!
Hopefully it takes this time. I am sick of hacking shit up, having sore throats, and the fucking smell that it leaves on me. Not to mention, if I put $5/day on something else, I could have alot more beer! Thats about a sack of 2-row/week!
That will be my motivation!
Cheers and thanks, guys!

Good Luck! It's all about will power. I smoked a pack a day for 20 years and quit 5 yrs ago.
You have to DECIDE that you aren't going to be a smoker any more. Period.
Don't cheat. Don't keep any "spares just in case". Don't have "just this one to stop the craving".

Good luck-

I started by chewing the gum, i chewed and chewed until I no onger wanted a smoke. I then slowly reduced the number of pcs of gum and the strength of the gum until the last piece was chewed. Took me abt 3 months but I never broke once. Its been about 4 years now and I only cheated once.....on a business trip totally drunk. Never went back. Good luck, its hard. Sometimes I cant believe I was able to do it.
