Yup a blow off tube is worth while if the level of the mead is close to the top of the fermenter.

Add 1.25g/gallon of fermaid-K at 1/3 and 2/3 sugar break. Mix it in about 50ml of water and dump it in the fermenter. Be careful and the stuff with foam up and possibly turn into a volcano if you are fermenting in a carboy.
