I make my slants the same way we did in med micro, by tilting the hot tubes in a rack at approx 45 degrees. But I like your way better. There's a lot more growth surface, and your idea of dumping starter wort onto the slant to innoculate it is cool too, and that's one less vessel to sterilize.

Is the lid of your slant on tight during the growth phase?

If yes, then loosen the cap to allow gas to escape. Then once growth has ceased after a week or so, tighten it up, tape it then fridge it.

At least that is my process.

i've never taped my slant lids... and i have many slants from 12/2009 in the fridge that are perfectly healthy!
