Brewing a "funky" Pale Ale.
Extract Pilsner and Gold (from Northern Brewer), Nelson Sauvin and Meridian hops (from NikoBrew), Omega Yeast Bring On Da Funk.
2 days into fermentation. Lots of tropical/pineapple flavor.
First brew since November. :jnj
Gimme oysters and beer (and Durian) for dinner every day of the year...

A IIPA with some Equinox and Mosaic (among others) in the mix. That is all...

I would say that it's flavor intensity is probably 2x that of the C120 I was using before (simpsons I think). My first impressions of it are "This is like drinking liquid bread crust". It reminds me a lot of the Scottish 60 I made a few times based on Nate Smith's Loose Change recipe. That had 5% C40, 5% C120, and 2% pale chocolate.

The Super Styria (Aurora) hops are also apparent in the beer. I have used it 3 times now (pils, saison, bitter) and keep being surprised by the intensity of hop flavor that I get for very modest additions of that hop. For this beer, I did:

1oz SS Aurora @ 30min
0.5oz SS Aurora @ 5min
1oz EKG @ 1min

and the EKG is largely overpowered by the SS Aurora character. I think if I was going to use it again, I would leave out the 0.5oz @ 5min. It isn't offensive at all, but I think I like it a little less bold in this beer. In the pilsner I had the same experience, only doing 1oz @ 40 and 1oz at flameout and it was very hoppy. Good bang for the buck if you want that kind of character.

I have not yet brewed with Super Styrians before. Can you describe their character for me?

Sounds awesome for a bitter. Gotta try those out. Thanks!

1oz Cascade @ 1min
1oz Mandarina Bavaria @ 0min (whirlpool for 10 minutes or something)
1oz Mandarina Bavaria @ dry hop

1oz Galaxy @ dry hop (maybe, I'll see what I think when I get there).

Your dry hop blend looks good. You will want the galaxy in there. Love that hop and it plays well with cascade.

I do enjoy Galaxy. I have yet to use it and not like it. I have had an oz of it sitting in the freezer (BSG foil pack) for a while waiting for the right thing to use it in. I'll toss it in there.

The brew day went well. The wort is a bit cloudy, which isn't terribly odd. It was very clear running out the mash, so it is probably just fine particles from the hops and break that will drop out after ferment.

I almost ran out of oxygen, just as I counted to 60 (0.5L/min for 1min) it pooped out. Looking back at my brew logs, I got 16 brews from 1 red bottle (10 ales @ 0.5L and 6 lagers @ 1L-1.5L).
