thats a damn good idea...could you post a recipe by chance?...we make our own dog treats with wheat flour, peanut butter, and carob chips...he loves the things and its nice knowing what you are giving him

I don't have my recipe at hand, but flour & PB are two of the main ingredients. If you have a recipe that works well already, just substitute some of those grains for the flour. Use the normal consistency of the dough as your guideline, it should be really close to the original.

Sounds similar to the BYO one.

That may have been where I picked it up from; it's been a few years back now so I don't really recall. Wheat flour, grains, PB & an egg. There could have been another ingredient or 2, but that's the gist of it. It's a fairly stiff dough. I kept cutting them vanilla wafer size, but I would probably use a narrow shot glass the next time around. That or maybe score them down the middle.

For some reason I filed it under S. Probably cause I don't make dog biscuits other than the Spent Grain variety. At least I found it:

4 cups non-hopped spent grain
4 cups wheat flour
1 cup peanut butter
1 egg

Mix well & bake @ 370 for 10-15 minutes. This is at ~5000' altitude, so you may have to adjust the temp down as much as 15-20 degrees. When they get a bit of color to them, they're done. Dogs still love them a little underbaked, but they don't last quite as long.

Neighbor's chickens get my spent grains. I was a little worried once when I made Janet's Brown because I wasn't sure if the hops in the grains were poisonous to chickens. Apparently not since they are still alive ( I did research before bringing it over ). I wonder if those eggs had any hop bittereness or aroma.

Very doubtful. Chickens eat a lot weirder stuff.
