HERMS with my 3/8 immersion chiller

I am loaded with questions this week for sure. I now have my chugger waiting to recirculate but am wanting to soon use my old 3/8 immersion chiller for a HERMS set up. However, I am concerned that there will be some problem with restricting the flow out of the chugger through a 3/8 immersion chiller. Maybe I'm asking if putting backpressure on a chugger pump is problem. Any guidance por favor!

Back pressure is the correct way to use the chugger. Usually, you will have a ball valve after the pump to set the flow rate out of it. You never want to starve the pump, always make it push against a blockage (read as: partially closed valve).

You should be good to go pumping into that.

It's been a long, long time, but IIRC my first HERMS coil was 30ish feet of 3/8's on a 10g system. Worked just fine.

I have the Stout Tanks HERMS HLT. the pressure drop thru the 1/2" coil is enough that I do not need to restrict the pump outlet at all. Turns out the be a nice flow with no valving.

Run it first and see what you find.
