Is the price of Stainless going to go down?

Fri Jan 23, 2009 7:31 am

I want to build a Brutus Ten, but the price of SS tube is still outragous. The absolute cheapest I can find 40' of 2"x2"x0.120" tube is about $600. And that is dealing with 20 foot sections. The local place wants $1000 for four 10' pieces.

GRRRRRRRRRRRR

It should be down now on the markets, like at the price it was 5 years ago. Check out
http://finance.google.com/finance?clien ... JX:DJAIGIN
and adjust the time scale appropriately. That the Dow industrial metals index.
And here's another similar chart
http://www.kitcometals.com/charts/gfms_ ... tml#5years
I haven't found current stainless prices, but it looks like the trend was going down at the end of last year in a manner consistent with the above:
http://www.meps.co.uk/Stainless%20Index-N.Amer.htm
Aging: Gotlandsdrickå, Baltic Porter in Bourbon barrel, Olde Ale #2 in whiskey barrel
On Draft: Nothing. Building a walk-in cooler right now.

The price of scrap has tanked over the last few months, but the price of finnished material is still outragous. It hasn't caught up with the rest of the market.

Tax return is going to be about $2500. My wife asked what we are going to do with it. I told her, "Build a Brutus Ten." She said, "OK."

You are a lucky, lucky man my friend. Mine's not being used for anything but going towards furniture and the car payments... I envy you.

She knows what it is, and anything to get more brewing steps out of the house is better in her eyes..

its a good possibility that people are not going to see lower prices for a while cause suppliers purchased at a high price. they are not going to take a hit on the price of metals. they are gonna sell them above what they paid for them for. once there is a turn over in stock, the prices might come back down.
Cheers!
