Solved my autosparge/lost prime problem

Wed Apr 06, 2011 12:04 pm

I kept losing my pump prime using an autosparge. Changed/retaped everything, but still had the problem. I picked up a larger impeller from my local March dealer for like $25 that essentially turns it into one of the new high flow pumps that B3 is selling. Did a 10 gallon batch last weekend with no problems. Plus, I think I can also use it as a pressure washer to clean my house.

Do you have a part number/source? Did you retrofit this to an older 809-PL pump? B3 says they are not compatible so it would be nice to have a work around.

Here's a good thread on the topic. http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/can-i-upgrade-typical-march-pump-hf-213577/

315 HF impeller pt# 0809-0107-0200

You must have the high speed motor on your 809. This is from the HBT thread by the guy from March.

"There will be a label on the motor stating the rpm's of it. It says FASCO on it and It will either say 1300/1500/1750 for the low speed versions. And the "HS" versions will state either 3050 or 3500rpm. The "HS" versions are the ones you can change the impeller to the bigger one.

The "HS" motors are one of the following part numbers:
0809-0090-1000
0809-0123-1000
0809-0139-1000
0809-0196-1000
"

Just checked and my pump purchased in 2004 is a 3500 RPM HS model. Off to find the bigger impeller.

Unfortunatly my pump lost its prime again last time I brewed. Annoying to have to babysit the sparge. I'll have to post a pic of my set up for Walter. I'm stumped.

This is why I love this forum, always something new to learn. It turns out the local March distributor is 5 minutes from my house. They have my HF impeller on order for pick up next week.
