OK, here's my ghetto sparge contraption. Sparging arm is mine. I steep grain (9lbs this time) in a grain bag in my brew kettle. When it's time to sparge I lift the grain bag, put it in the pasta strainer, put the strainer on a wok support ring which is supported by wooden spoons. Heat water in a separate pot, scoop it out with a pyrex measuring cup, slowly sprinkle water over the grains.

Seemed to work well tonight! for a total wort of 3.5 gallons I was able to hit 1.068. I only had to add 2lbs of LME and 1/2 lb of DME to get my target gravity of 1.067 for 5 gallons.

Soon I'll be beyond this....kegs come first.

next time. I just read an article on it today, and I've got a 48qt cooler sitting in the basement that's been used once. I'm probably also going to get a stainless turkey fryer set in the next few weeks, too.

I was actually really surprised at how well this setup worked. It seems to be stable enough, and i don't have dogs or kids running around to knock it over.

Mr. DNA that set up makes me nervous. You get big points for making do. Definitely put that cooler to use and start batch sparging. It's pretty easy. I use the stainless steel braid in my cooler. Cheap and works.
