I'm looking for any experience chilling with either of these setups. I currently use a plate chiller and can get to 68 in about 14 minutes with my tap water. The problem is, I hate using hopsacks especially on IPAs and other hoppy beers. I was just wondering if cooling efficiency would be similar ? I recirculate and cool the whole kettle at once rather that slowly feed wort through into the fermenter.

I use the chillus convolutus but I also use a grant so no hops get into it. If you run off into a grant first you can easily keep all solids out of the chiller ...

I have a new convouluted chiller, but I am too lazy to set it up, so I continue to no-chill

Thanks, My thought was that the hop material would nt plud the tube inside. Pellet hops.

They hold about 2 ounces of hops each and contain all the debris. And they are tough enough that you can beat one them. You can hop continuously with them 'cause they are small, but large enough to hold plenty of hops. And they are cheap enough that you can afford to have a dozen of them around. Like a couple bucks for three.

I've been wanting to use a grant on the outflow of my boil kettle just like this but never did figure out how to pull the wort out via the pump without a through the wall ball valve. How do you get the pump to pull the wort? what is the process for starting flow in your system? I have the same pump and it won't self prime so I am thinking that you somehow have a solution to flood the lines and pump. Maybe the photos don't show the actual liquid levels well. Any info would be great.
