Mash Tun Score

Possible new mash tun has joined the family. It is an old aluminum insulated cylindical soup vessel. It came from the State Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN. Its pretty cool. I need to run a temp/time check.

it is insulated, but the bottom isn't. The top has 3 clamps on it to seal it. One of them is busted, but it works just fine. The top is also super insulated and it is "male' threaded on the top, for a sparge arm perhaps? I have a bit of research and planning to do, but i think that i will be able to bulkhead it and go from there!

Awesome piece of kit, I dont think you will have any issues regarding heat loss with that puppy.

Going to Menards tomorrow to get bulkhead components. Going to make a false bottom and all that good stuff. Still thinking about what route to go with a sparge arm. The top of it has the male side threads and a hole through. Not sure how to go about this.

Is a compression fitting available in the size of that thread on top? If so, can you run a copper tube inside the hole through the top, clamp it in place with the compression fitting and do what you have to do on either end of the pipe? If so you could also use that to raise or lower the top of the sparge arm which might be handy if you have to drop it down after closing the lid.
