is it ok to soak the nickel plated brass kettle valves from brewer's edge in star stan?

It is really a matter of contact time. I would not soak it over night or anything, but a few minutes (enough to sanitize) should be fine.

I soaked some nickel plated brass faucets in Star San overnight once and it took the plating right off. Short soaks for a minute or three won't hurt them a bit. A longer soak won't get them any more sanitized than what the first 30 seconds would do, so why bother to go for a long soak?

yeah so it was more of a forgot in star san for a few days after cleaning my mashtun.

im guessing the nickel is gone. should i now treat this like a brass valve?

I was a dunce and soaked my bottles in the kitchen sink full of Star San. I left it there all day and went to work. I came home and the nickel plating of the drain and coating on the sink is coming off. My wife was pissed at me!.
Boy, did I feel stupid. I now soak them in orange plastic buckets from Home Depot. LOL

Get rid of the nickel plated sissy pistol and get one of these:


As you know, Star San is acidic so if it can get under the nickel it'll start a corrosion process between the nickel and the brass. Of course on the up side the Star San will most likely strip any lead away too.
spritz it, No need to soak it. But, as you said it's on your boil kettle, so it's going to get pasteurized every time anyway- yes?

If you can take it off and soak it then, Why not drop it in a pot of boiling water? That'll do you the added service of stripping organic crud away. Star San is not a cleanser.
