New MT

My old one was just too crowded and my brewery build is coming slow slow slow. So I decided to get a new MT which when I'm done with it will serve nicely ad a Tank for brining turkeys and such.
No mister SST braid, this is a SST screen covering the bottom in an oak frame.

You must be getting crazy efficiency out of that thing. Did you notice a big difference between this one and whatever your old one was?

Where did you get the stainless steel mesh, I'm thinking adding a finer mesh to my boil kettle false bottom to reduce material entering my plate chiller

I got the mesh on the flea bay I think I paid like $18.00
Efficiency? YA know I have never bothered to calculate it. I just sort of know what to expect from the ingredients and equipment.
I have noticed a higher alcohol content from the Monster Mill but it's also easy to grind so fine I get stuck sparges. But - - and this'll slay some folks - - I don't check the gravity either. I used to, but I just got disinterested. I mean After a while ya k just know what to expect. I'll do a starch test if I have any questions about the sufficiency of the mash, but usually i won't even do that.

Cliff, you mean you don't even check gravity pre-boil? Aren't you worried about hop utilization?
I'd be worried about over/under bittering without knowing the gravity.

OMG Cliff, I know it's not supposed to make sense but that gravity comment just blows my mind. How can you tell if you've reached full attenuation or have a stuck ferm without knowing OG? By taste or something? BTW, that mash tun looks cool though. Thanks for giving me some ideas before new build.

That's what I love about homebrewing, it can be an art or a science or whatever combination that matches your personality.
