can i attach the pump directly to the kettle outlet or do i need to have the pump a foot or so below the outlet.
(1) would be permanently attached to the kettle
(2 and 3) would be permanently attached to the pump
everything after (6) would remain attached to the chiller
any input would be appreciated, never used a pump or tried whirlpooling

From what I remember attaching the pump directly to the pot performs better than mounting the pump lower, and running tubing.

I think Tasty did/does that. I remember seeing a picture with it hung off the ball valve.

That housing is plastic, though; I bet you would crack a lot of pump heads.

I've seen it done a few times. The only problem is when the kettle gets empty it may tip over and cause a mess or a broken pump. Quick fix, tie a brick to handle on other side of kettle or just baby sit it.
