Got my sanke tap from northern brewer today to tap my keg of Sierra Nevada Celebration. Looks great, but regardless of where the handle part is, the internals rattle like crazy. There's all kinds of loose shit in there and I'm hesitant to connect it to my keg because of the rattling.

As a homebrewer, I'm not super familiar with sanke taps and I've been out of college for 15ish years now, but does it make sense that it's rattling like there's all sorts of loose shit inside it?

There's a plastic ball on the liquid out side that acts as a check valve may be rattling. The parts diagram from http://www.micromatic.com/draft-keg-bee ... 7485E.html should help. They're no problem to disassemble and put back together. Also make sure the orings (#5) are installed in the coupler body.

To take out the "pea" all you need to do is remove the retainer (1 on the diagram) with a pair of needlenose plliers. As ass the pea does is keep anything from flowing in to the keg it's not reallu necessary in most applications and you will have to remove it if you wish to fill the keg through the coupler. I take them out of all my couplers (and the gas check valve too) and screw on the little stainless valves that Micromatic sells. Then I can use the couplers for filling, cleaning, steam sterilizing or even serving beer.
