Given that most co2 pressure gauges have a range much higher than needed for draft beer, I was wondering if I can simply swap out the pressure gauge for a "low pressure" gauge in the 0-15 psi range. This would allow a more precise setting of typical dispensing pressures.

Something like this.

Or does the whole regulator need to be changed (would the common ones blow out the gauge)?

The gauge shown in the link goes to 60 Psi. Double check before buying. Anyway a 15 Psi gauge will be fine as long as you don't adjust the regulator past 15 psi or you may damage the gauge. Maxed out, my regulator will deliver 40 Psi. If you want to force carbonate beer quickly (30 Psi) you will want to stick with the 60 Psi gauge.

I go with 30 psi gauges on my regulators. Too easy to blow them out if you go to 15 yet still plenty of resolution so you can dial in your pressure as accurately as you need to. (Do you really need to dial in your carbonation to the nearest 0.2 psi?)

Great timing as I was just going to ask this same question. A buddy at work gave me 2 dual gauge regulators and both go to 160psi so I was wondering about changing them out myself.

Good point. Don't need that kind of accuracy but hate trying to dial in low carbination beers on standard gauges. How are the 30 psi ones marked? Thanks
