Local Water Profile

Fri Apr 19, 2013 2:03 pm

I thought it would be nice to try and get people's water profiles all in one place. If there already is a thread like this please someone point me in the right direction so I can submit my water profile.

This sample was taken on April 8th 2013 and the test was done by Ward Labs. For the City of Superior, WI water. The source is Lake Superior itself.

pH 8
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) Est, ppm 82
Electrical Conductivity, mmho/cm 0.14
Cations/Anions, me/L 1.3/1.4
Sodium, Na 7 ppm
Potassium, K <1 ppm
Calcium, Ca 14 ppm
Magnesium, Mg 4 ppm
Total Hardness, CaCO3 52 ppm
Nirate, NO3-N 0.5 (safe)
Sulfate, SO4-s 2 ppm
Chloride, Cl 5 ppm
Carbonate, CO3 3 ppm
Bicarbonate, HCO3 60 ppm
Total Alkalinity, CaCO3 54 ppm
Total Phosphorus, P 0.45 ppm
Total Iron, Fe < 0.01 ppm

I hope we can get a good collection of profiles on here so the whole army can benefit.

I think that this is a pretty good idea. I live in Corvallis, OR and our 2013 water quality report just came out so here are the numbers for it:

Taylor Plant Reported Rock Creek Plant Reported
Nitrate 0.20 ppm 0.09 ppm
Sodium 17.6 ppm 6.664 ppm
Calcium 4.27 ppm 7.80 ppm
Chloride 3.6 ppm 4.3 ppm
Iron None detected 0.021 ppm
Sulfate 13.7 ppm 6.83 ppm
Alkalinity 32.6 ppm 30.0 ppm
Hardness 24 ppm 28 ppm
pH 6.90 - 7.30 pH units 6.90 - 7.20 pH units
Total Dissolved Solids 70.0 ppm 24.0 ppm

Link for anyone interested: http://www.corvallisoregon.gov/modules/ ... entid=4527

65% of the water is treated by the Taylor Plant and 35% by the Rock Creek Plant. So you have to weight the numbers based on that information. We've got pretty soft water here evidently. I still brew with bottled spring water since I'm too lazy to deal with driving off the chlorine and it only costs me an extra $10 a brew day for all my water. Maybe next brew day I will buy a RV carbon filter and use the city water.
