Can I use DME if it is hard as JP after taking a Viagra pill

I want to make a starter for a brew next weekend and a buddy gave me so DME that is as hard as a rock... My plan was to dissve the whole thing in enough water to reach 1.040 then proceed normally from there.

Thoughts, comments, rude gestures?

Good beer comes from good ingredients. Its old and probably stale. I don't think its worth saving 3 or 4 bucks knowing you are going to prime your batch with a stale starter.

I'd just toss it.

Sure you can use it, but only if you follow these 3 steps.

Make starter.

Pee in it.

Return to friend at high krausen.
