Hi gang...

Thinking about brewing up a batch of dobbelbock ( 6 US gal.) - gonna need a helluwa` lot of yeast to ferment it though - Does anybody have a good recipe i could use to grow up the cellnumbers i would need, and what is your favorite yeast for this style of beer.
Im not particularly into German Helles or anything light lager`ish ( being from europe, we get that a lot here ) maybe an Octoberfest or would a rauchbeer-yeast carry the smoketaste to the next batch ??

I would not go with a smoked beer for fear of flavor transfer. That said I am in love with 833.

I agree with the 833. And I think something like a Vienna lager might fit the bill for a starter batch.

If you wash your yeast I doubt a rauch flavor would cary over. Plus...if you like rauch bier...a hint of it might be really nice in a bock.
