Holding a competition isn't a requirement for determining the AM for the ProAM. The AM must have only placed in an AHA sanctioned comp during the prescribed period. Vinnie and I are blowing up the JBA again this year. Huge batch. Details are just being decided but so far, it's looking like it's going to be an epic pro-am collaboration. Can't say much more except to say I get to design the label. I am one lucky mo-foe.

I probably wouldn't waste your time, the BA is really unorganized and there are tons of volunteers that really are only there for the free beer.

I volunteered for years and finally had enough.

Buy a ticket and enjoy.

Thanks for the advice BR... good to know before I signed on the dotted line.

Unfettered I will be come GABF! Flights from Fresno to Denver are direct, and cheap!

I'll be there, and airfare from MKE to Denver is uber-cheap right now.

If anybody is interested, we're going to check out a Rockies Game in the afternoon on Wed the 15th against the Padres.

So, if I brewed a beer that medaled in a local AHA sanctioned comp, then approached a local brewpub with my beer and got them to brew and enter it, would that be able to be entered in the GABF pro-am?

Yes, and a way to argue for it is if they are going to GABF anyway, it is a super cheap way of getting an extra beer in. The cost of getting the ProAm beers judged/poured is a fraction of the cost of beers on the general show floor.
