That blows. At least they could try and get them up a few days before Longshot closes so I can enter my beers that don't advance over there.

Brad,

Just because a beer didn't advance in the AHA National first round doesn't at all mean it can't win BOS at the Longshot. (Like my DIPA for instance, it didn't advance that year nor did my Amber Ale which came in fourth) The categories are large in the first round and the pallets can get fatigued. Sure, the feedback CAN be relevent in deciding what beers to send to the Longshot but I wouldn't let that be the only criteria. Especially since the Longshot beers are judged a month later.

I'll be mailing the West scoresheets tomorrow. (It's the moral thing to do.) When you get yours Thursday, sit down with a two ounce pour of each beer in some reasonable tasting sequence and read the judges comments. If you agree with the faults and the score, you may consider not sending it. But if you're not getting it, then invest the zero dollar entry fee and drop some bottles off at MoreBeer. Even you would look good on that Longshot label. Hey. that's what they said to me!

Good luck Wezil,

Tasty

After judging several categories Saturday and Sunday I must say that the west coast brought it strong. Some fantastic examples of Belgian strong's , Strong ale , IPAs and Mead's. Talking with other judges they were coming across a good number of 40 point beers. I dont know who the winners are but its going to be a tough crowd to beat.
A lot of the IPAs seemed to taste real close. Hmm all from the same book?? Tasty Clones?? Who knows.
I was actually amazed judging BOS for strong ales and 5 of the 7 were Old Ales.
Wonderful examples I must say. The two others were English Barleywines.
Good luck to everyone.

No that is not what I was saying. Some beers I may not have enought to bottle 4 more bottles (or I am just lazy). It would be nice to use the 3 bottles I already have ready in the fridge and only do 1 more bottle to make the required 4 for the Longshot entry. I will still have a couple just beacause it is free.

I am judging the Old West on Saturday. I don't know what categories yet, but I am hoping for Sour Ales as one of them. I am interested to see what people enter in the category. The ones I have had from my homebrew club companions have been excellent.

I hope its not like last year where the west region was posted the day after judging and the northeast was posted two days before 2nd round entries were due.

looks like they changed their format.....we all find out together May 1st - 8th

here

they try that every year, and then one region (not Northeast) never manages to get their info in, and the AHA ends up having to release the other regions because we all sit around waiting for the one last region to get everything done

Northeast sent the judging sheets out late last year, because they were trying to have them arrive after the announcement from the AHA. The results went into the AHA the week of the competition.

When you get your scoresheets isn't related to when the AHA receives the winner's list from the region.

The AHA has a page this year that shows the progress
http://www.beertown.org/events/nhc/recent_winners.html

Right now they've only received results from the East region and they got that on Monday 4/20. 5 other regions have already judged but haven't sent their results to the AHA.
On tap 1: Dry Irish
On tap 2: El Jefeweizen
On tap 3: Vienna
kegged: Rye Amber, Belgian Dark Strong, CYBI Mirror Pond, Irish Red, RIS
lagering: Vienna, Helles, Cream Ale, CAP

The West region finished judging at 4:30PM on 4/19 and the AHA had our results by 8:30PM because we did not have an onsite internet connection. West entrants are receiving their scoresheets today. So our status would more accurately be described as DONE AND DELIVERED! :)
