First time brew stand

Fri Jan 09, 2009 7:39 am

OK, I finally got a pump, a counterflow chiller, some steel angle, a borrowed reciprocating saw, and the courage to construct a 2-tier brew stand. I've looked at enough photos to know what it should look like. One question, though: I figure on it being about 6 feet long. Width-wise, I want it to be able to accomodate my cajun cooker burners. (I'm constructing a set of rails underneath the table to support them and allow them to slide.) However, this will only give a width of about 18 inches. Will that narrow width provide enough stability so that I'm not burned or maimed beyond recognition? (My wife doesn't have that much insurance on me!) I was thinking of increasing the width to 24 inches. Any thoughts and thanks in advance.

Cheers...Guido

+1. 18" must be good, because 24" (my current, three tier) is too big. It doesn't really cause any issues, but it is bigger than it needs to be. Since you are only doing 2 tier - you should be good.

PushEject, your stand looks exactly like my vision, almost inch for inch. I'm about 1-1/2 hours from Lancaster, PA. I guess you don't have too many Amish in CA.

PushEject, your editing of my quote--how shall I say it?--didn't quite sound exactly right.

That was the Ta2'd one... If you have a problem, I would take it up with him here.
