Autosiphon sorta cracking

Tue Feb 22, 2011 8:59 pm

My auto siphons have both developed a sorta grain-like cracking to them. I think it's from using too hot of water when cleaning, but wanted to know if anyone else had this happen?

I threw two out for the same reason before switching to the Jamil method: Stainless steel racking cane, tubing, and a turkey baster to start the siphon. No looking back.

I have had numerous go like that, I thought it was either from soaking them in napisan or leaving them in the sun soaking in napisan

I have the same problem on autosiphon #2...

#1 broke while trying to remove the hose; the tiny plastic filter thingy on the inside of the bottom of my racking cane also came off (after it got clogged with whole hops) which makes it VERY difficult to get the siphon started and it's pretty much impossible to put that little bit of plastic back in once it comes out.

I will NOT be buying autosiphon #3, EVER.

mine shattered. It's the star san.
Don't put it away with star san on it.
It induces stress crazing and cracks

They could have used polycarbonate which would last for-friggen-ever but they didn't

Pour hot water onto the vinyl hose when removing it as it'll soften the plastic and make removal less of a force issue
HEY~!! It's a hobby~!! It's NOT supposed to make sense~!!

Mine wasn't due to starsan, as only used starsan for the first time this week.

I'm pretty sure those are scratches from the pumping action. I'm thinking of switching to the Jamil method for that reason.
