15.5 Keg kettle pick up question

Seeing as I've already did 5 trips to lowes this week...

would just a 90 deg elbow be enough to pick up most the wort out of the keg? Or should I build something like the pick up they sell at MoreBeer?

You dont want to pickup all the trub in the middle of the keg, so unless you have some type of filter, I would use a pickup that gets the wort from the side of the kettle.

You could also not bother with a pick-up tube.

My BK has no pickup, although I've contemplated various different options. I just tilt the thing as it gets close to empty, depending on the trub and other junk at the bottom. My HLT has a piece of stainless tubing that goes into a compression fitting attached to the 1/2" NPT thread. I just put a nice bend in the tubing until it reached down just about to the bottom of the keg. You could do the same thing with soft copper tubing.

I just put a nice bend in the tubing until it reached down just about to the bottom of the keg. You could do the same thing with soft copper tubing.

The 1/2" in compression to copper tube is my main candidate for what to do. No pick up would be leaving 1.5-3 gal of wort per batch.

could also pull from the center, build a simple hopback, and use muslin bags as a trub filter...

I currently have a screen in my keggle, but have been thinking of a redesign myself. First thing is do you use a whirlpool/jamil chiller? If you don't then ur trubb will settle to the bottom and a 90 would work as long as it doesn't go to the bottom.

Right now I plan on building a jamil chiller and between a little extra copper from the recirculate tube and a snip of sillicon tubing making a pickup to collect from the side of the keggle.

Other much more expensive option would use a false bottom setup. You would still need to leave some dead space for the break material bit the false bottom will filter out the hops.

A false bottom wont properly filter out all the pellet hops(it will filter out some). I used to have one and finally got rid of it.
