Bought Some Kegs - Now Have Questions

Mon Aug 01, 2011 6:14 pm

I bought four kegs, 5 gallon pin lock soda kegs (used), on ebay for $22.99 per keg and $28 to ship all four. I'm totally new to kegging, so I have a few questions:

A.) For used kegs, is this a good deal? I may buy more based on the feedback.
B.) There are three different types of pressure relief valves (photos below). Are these all complete? Any other input on the three different types?
C.) Can you suggest a good resource that describes breaking kegs down, cleaning, replacing gaskets, reassembling and pressure testing?

Here are a couple links that may help.

It appears you have a couple different models of kegs. The lids are interchangeable, even with ball lock kegs. If you screw one up hopelessly, you can just buy a replacement. The posts are not necessarily interchangeable. When you clean those kegs, don't get the posts mixed up. Here is a chart showing the thread sizes. This will show why the posts from one keg might not fit another. http://www.ipass.net/mpdixon/KegThreadSizes.htm

For other references, go to the "Brand Spanking New to Kegging" thread at the top of this forum. Some of the links in my post up there are no longer good, but most are.

I think it was a good deal, been looking at some kegs myself and the ones I've seen go for about $40-$60 used.

Thanks for the information Bug, or Boooog as Daniella used to say it. :)

I don't know if I'm supposed to post specifics regarding retailers here, so I'll go ahead and ask forgiveness of the moderators if I'm not. But, since you're looking for kegs, and the ones I found are apparently a better deal than what you're finding, the link is below. I placed my order for four kegs on Wednesday evening and they were on my porch the following Saturday (3 days later). I don't know much about kegs, but they appear to be as the seller advertised.
