Adding lactose late?

Mon Feb 20, 2012 8:24 am

I was wondering if I could add lactose after the primary fermentation. I decided my beer would be a lot better with lactose in it, but I didn't add it to the boil, I now lactose is not consumed by the yeast so I was wondering if it would be ok to boil up some lactose, let it chill down to the temp of my wort and add it.

I want to add this to a stout, its been fermenting for about 3 weeks.

Thanks everyone!!!

I don't see why that would be a problem. Just be sure to let the beer sit for a week or so before transferring to let it blend in well with the beer.

If I'm not making a mistake lactose is non fermentable and added to the beer at later stages to sweeten it up.

I add mine to taste on bottling day in the same manner and at the same time as the priming sugar. No worries. Go for it.
